Sustainability

Sustainable gardening

For me, being sustainable is about recognising the impact that we as humans have on the environment and doing our best to mitigate that impact by working with nature rather than against it.  The good news is that, in my experience, this results in more attractive and natural looking, yet lower maintenance gardens.

The Helpful Horticulturist always aims to:

  • Use organic and natural products

  • Use sustainable and ethically sourced landscaping materials

  • Design timeless gardens which are built to last

  • Promote a wildlife-friendly approach which will encourage biodiversity

  • Use hand tools or battery powered tools for garden maintenance

  • Serve local clients, walking or cycling to appointments where possible

I like to get involved with community projects where I can, particularly those which educate young people about the importance of looking after the natural world and trying to live more sustainably.  For more details click here.
